Default IE Cannot Locate Server or DNS

I have been trying to hook my daughter's laptop to my D-
Link Router since she moved back home. She used to connect
to the internet with a cable modem at apartment. My
connection is a DSL. I can connect without any problems to
the internet. When I plug her laptop into the router all
lights are active including the light on her network card.
I even "pinged" her computer and it was successful so I
know that the cables are correct. Yet when she tries to
load any web sites with IE all she gets is the "cannot
locate server or dns" message. I'm at a loss. I can't see
any firewall software on her computer or any anti-virus
software. Any ideas?

Look in the "Connection tab under the Tools - Internet Options setting in
IE. The LAN connection may have a proxy server defined which is no longer
valid.

cheers

Thank you, Simon! That was exactly the problem! I thought
I had checked all her settings against my computer but I
must have missed the LAN settings. Thanks so much for your
quick reply! Computer people are the best! *g*
