idle time before hanging up

I have set my dial up networking connection to 20 mins of
idle time before hanging up but it never disconnects as I
found to my cost the other day when it was accidentally
connected for 8 hours. Can anyone help me get this
feature working so I don't have big phone bill whn I
forget to manually disconnect?
