Wanting to setup ICS with my 2 home PCs. At the moment
they are connected with a crossover cable and can see each
other and share files.
The broadband modem is connected to the ME pc and i have
now set this up for ICS.
What steps do i need to carry out on the XP client PC to
get this to be able to browse the internet?
I have tried adding the gateway IP address of the ME pc to
the TCP/IP protocol of the NIC card on the XP pc with no
success.
If you have installed ICS on WinME, and set defaut GateWay on WinXp with IP
Address of WinME, then you need to set Ip Addresses of DNS Server (your
ISP). Try to tracert 66.102.11.99
to see where the packets are going.

Please provide ipconfig information for each computer, and we should be able to
sort the problem out.
Start - Run - "cmd". Type "ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt" into the command
window - Open c:\ipconfig.txt in Notepad, copy and paste into your next post.
Cheers,
Chuck

Here are three alternative ways to set up the XP client:
1. Run XP's Network Setup Wizard on the XP client (not on the ME pc).
Tell it that the computer connects to the Internet through another
computer on your network.
2. Configure the client's TCP/IP properties to obtain an IP address
automatically.
3. Configure the client's TCP/IP properties manually:
IP Address: 192.168.0.x (1<x<255)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.1
DNS Server = 192.168.0.1

It may also be useful to have the XP machine as the gateway if possible.
It has much more stable networking, and a much nicer version of ICS
I will give step 3 a go as the network between the two
machines is already setup ok.
Already setup:

Just missing the DNS server setup as the ME ICS
(192.168.0.1) machine. Will give that a go tonight with
success hopefully.
