Hello all.
Sorry to be long winded but this is a long winded problem.
All machines running XP
I am having a problem with my network and Wireless linking
to ICS (Iternet Connection Sharing).
2X Desktops & 1X Laptop.
Background
All connect fine with Lan 10/100 Ethernet. I installed a
wireless 802.11B NIC in 1 of the Desktops and in the
Laptop. Problems started from there on as 1 connection per
NIC would only operate at a time but managed to get around
this by Setting the 10/100 MB NIC to 10MB Half duplex. Now
the 10/100 and the Wireless adaptor work in conjunction
with each other.
Next I wanted to connect the Dial-up adaptor on the
desktop to the wireless card, ICS from the desktop. IP
Problems started when enabling the ICS Connection in the
dial-up config. This was "The address 192.168.0.1 could
not be configured", I have configured this manually to the
wireless adaptor and still this does not work i have
configured TCP/IP for the Wireless adaptor and it is all
CORRECT. Rundown of the network at present
ICS Enabled on Desktop 1 for adaptor 192.168.0.1
I am unable to browes the internet after establishing a
dial-up connection manually. (IE is configured to Detect
connection)
Default gateways on all PC's are set to 192.168.0.1
DNS = Same
WINS = Same
Dial-up adaptor TCP/IP is set to Obtain
Problem 2
I have disabled the ICS on desktop 1. I have uninstalled
the adaptor drivers and removed the card from the PC. ICS
is turned off and i am unable to browes the network on
PC1. Internet explorer is unable to open the network site. www.microsoft.com or www.google.com.
This is funny as Internet explorer will detect that a dial-
up connect is not present and prompt to connect.
I have reinstalled the SP1 and then upgraded to SP2 this
has not helped the situation at all.
I am unable to recieve internet Mail through outlook
express or view web pages on this PC. It is interesting
however that the messages on both internet explorer and
outlook express come up so quickly that it appears that
the connection is not being probed (for lack of a better
word) this indicates to be that this is a networking
issue. I have set-up the dial-up connection numerious
times with no avail. I have also noticed that some
settings have not applied until the PC is restarted. this
worries me as these are settings that i would expect to
have applied "On the Fly".
Has anyone had this type of problem or able to offer any
assistance of why any one of these problems have occured.
