HTTP: Error 12031

Windows XP computer working fine for years until Windows updates yesterday.
Now cannot access web with IE7 or Firefox, Mail works OK.

Network Diagnostics for Windows XP return the following:

"HTTP: Error 12031 connecting to www.microsoft.com: The connection with the
Server was reset."

Further message in diagnostics stated problem probably caused by firewall
settings. I turned off firewall but problem remains

Ideas anyone??

Error 12303 The connection with the Server was reset could be connection
issue or firewall issue. Have you reset winsock? WE had a post before and
