How to really uninstall a network adapter/network connection?

When I go to START->Settings->Network Connection then I have a lot of unused, outdated
network connection entries which might interfere with/disturb other network configurations.

I would like to permanently get rid of them.

The only way I found so far is to disable them.

Is there a way to completely uninstall them?

Is there a way to uninstall whole network adapters without uninstalling
the software which create them originally?

An example would be required in order to give you a more complete
answer.

In general, you should only have a few network connections:

Local Area Connection
Wireless Area ???
Bluetooth Network


and few Virtual Private Network "icons."

If you have only one Network Card only one connection is real, otherwise
there would not be connection at all.
Delete all the other icons.
If the remained connection has a high number it does not mean that the other
connections exist. The number is an Id number and Not a sign to how many
connections are really functioning.
