Default How to connect XP and 98 computer thru a hub?

Does anyone know how to connect a Win XP home edition
PC and a Win 98 PC thru a hub?
Both computers connect to the internet thru their
own modems. I want them to also connect thru their
NIC's thru a hub. The NIC's are working fine and
the cables are good, but they can not find each other.
XP help is useless, or at least I can't find an example
for my configuration. This is driving me nuts.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance.
