Default Host unreachable msg after spyware removal tool ran.

I ran a spyware removal tool x-clean to get rid of some
spyware. Now I cannot access my wireless network. The IP
address is not like the other computers linked to the
cable modem via wireless. I try the ping to the gateway
and i get Destination Host unreachable.
Any ideas?

Have you tried an IPConfig Release & IPCofig /Renew. You need to have a
valid address to communicate with other devices on the network. What
address do you currently have?

The Auto Config IP Addr is 169.254.216.129 which someone
else said is invalid. The Subnet mask is 255.255.0.0 and
the Default gateway is blank.

169.254.X.X is an APIPA address ( Automatic Private IP Addressing ). This
means that you were unable to get a DHCP lease.

So where do we go from here? Do we delete winsock entries
from the registry? Or if you can direct me to an article,
that would be great.

Bev,

Try repairing your LSP / Winsock.
<http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=811259>
Use LSP-Fix and WinsockLSPFix (free) from <http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm>.

Cheers,

Hey Chuck,
Thanks a million. I looked into the Winsock registry and
found the New.Net entries first. And of course this
happened after the x-clean program tried to remove
New.Net.
I am downloading the tool, and am sure this will resolve
my problem.
Thanks again.
Bev

Bev,

Glad to have helped.

Yep, New.Net was, IIRC, one of the original motivations for creation of LSP-Fix
and WinsockLSPFix. Stay safe.

Cheers,
Chuck
