I've setup a home network that i just can't get to work.
Here's the scenario: I've just purchased a new computer
(Comp1) and have my old computer(Comp2) which i wish to
network. I've also purchased a wireless router with which
to connect them and to access the internet thru a cable
modem. Comp1 is physically wired to the router while
Comp2 is linked to the router wirelessly. The router has
assigned both computers an IP address thru DHCP. The
router's address is 192.168.0.1; Comp1 is 192.168.0.100
and Comp2 is 192.168.0.101. Now, Comp1 is running
WindowsXP Home Edition(using NTFS) while Comp2 is running
WindowsXP Professional(using FAT32 because its a multi-
boot setup with Windows 98. Both computers belong to the
same workgroup and when i open Network places on Comp1
and view the workgroup it shows both Comp1 and Comp2 in
the window. However, when i click on Comp 2's icon i get
an error saying that i cannot access that resource(mind
you, i've configured the volumes on both computers to be
able to share files; The "hand" icon is under the C
drive!). I can ping the router from Comp1 but i get No
Reply when i try to ping Comp2. Similarly, on Comp2, when
i click on My Network Places and try to view computer in
the workgroup i get an error saying that i cannot access
the workgroup. However, i can ping Comp1 and the router
and get a successful reply! Can the NTFS and FAT32
differences be the cause of this problem? If anyone out
there can help me out of this quandry please reply!!!!
