I have 1 laptop (ACER) and 1 desktop (JC) which are in the same group
(BUGG) with user "Jean-Charles" as administrator on both machines.
Pings are OK, every computer can "see" the other in the workgroup
computers but the problems are after that.
JC can enter ACER but not browse the "system" folders (windows, progam
files....) then I get the "no rights" message.
ACER cannot even enter JC
I had this problem the last time with another computer in my network and
it was solved by adding the user accounts on both machines, but since this
time I'm using the same user account "Jean-Charles" on both machines and
this user is OF COURSE administrator I don't understand what is wrong

and the passwords match?
did you disable simple file sharing?

Txl,
On any XP Pro computer, check to see if Simple File Sharing (Control Panel -
Folder Options - View - Advanced settings) is enabled or disabled. With XP Pro,
you need to have the SFS settings properly set on each computer. If you want to
administer across the network (share the System folders), you have to disable
SFS - Guest won't administer.
With XP Pro, if SFS is disabled, check the Local Security Policy (Control Panel
- Administrative Tools). Under Local Policies - Security Options, look at
"Network access: Sharing and security model", and ensure it's set to "Classic -
local users authenticate as themselves". "Guest only" won't administer.
Cheers,
Chuck

No passwords on any of the accounts

Yes, this is the first thing I do on XP, together with "show me system
files" and so on....

Set the Jean-Charles account with an identical, non-blank password on both
computers.
Do either of the computers have a software firewall (ICF or third party)? If
so, you need to configure them for file sharing, by opening ports TCP 139, 445
and UDP 137, 138, 445, and / or by identifying the other computers as present in
the Local (Trusted) zone. Firewall configurations are a very common cause of
(network) browser, and file sharing, problems.

Chuck

Ok, moving along...after many reboots
ACER can now fully access JC, no problem, JC can "see" ACER, enter the
"non sytem folders" but is blocked upon entering "windows", or "program
files"
I can live with this since I can move the files I want to a "non sytem"
folder and then do my file shuffle internally from ACER but I'd like toi
make it work.
I have BLACK ICE Firewall installed but the proper ports are opened and
anyway the network is working fine on the other PCs and the windows
firewall is one of the first things to go (with SFS and messenger).
What can i do to make JC access ACER's system folders ?
