Post Ethernet woes

Hi there,

I'm currently experiencing problems with my ethernet connection to my windows xp pro sp2.

My ethernet connection randomly disconnects and reconnects back really fast after the disconnection. The disconnection problem occurs randomly and will be back working in less than 10 secs. I have updated my lan driver, scan my computer for virus, spyware using Bitdefender, Ad-ware, Spybot S&D. They all turn out that my computer is not infected with spyware nor viruses.

My connection is set to DHCP-mode. This problem surfaced only about 2 weeks ago and I tried every possible way to fix it but still no improvement. I am using the Administrator account but when I switch over to another account, the problem doesn't occur. My XP is running for over a year with no connection problem or anything else until 2 weeks ago. Can someone kindly shed some light on this matter?

Your help is deeply appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Check the connector to make certain that it is not loose. If the connector
is loose, it must be re-soldered to the motherboard.

It sounds like a connection-related problem. For whatever reason, it's
possible that it is having trouble maintaining a 100-Base-T connection.

Try dropping down to a 10-Base-T connection.
Start -> Run -> "devmgmt.msc"
Double-click on your network card, then click on the "Advanced" tab
Find an entry that looks something like "Link Speed & Duplex" and
change it from "auto" to "10 Mbps / Full" then "OK" your way out. (Use
"half" instead of "full" if you connect to a hub instead of a router,
switch, or modem). You might have to reboot.

HTH,
John

@Jim: The connector's not loose and there's no problem with the LAN cable because I changed to a new LAN cable and the problem persist.

@John: I shall try your solution and monitor the situation. But why am I having this problem suddenly when it has been working fine for so long?
