Last week I applied for and connected to an ADSL line for my home.
Whenever I try to connect , Windows XP gives me Error 678: The remote
computer did not respond. But temporarily, I changed my line to
another ADSL line of other apartment of our building and everthing
worked without problem without changing any configuration of my
computer.
My ISP cannot find answers. What can be the cause it ?
Can it be because of week signal of my ADSL line ? or does my line
require another settings ? or is there a modulation problem or other
else.
My ISP says that I should use
PPOe LLC
VPI 8
VCI 35
These entries works for ADSL line of other apartment but not for my
line ?
Any help is appreciated.
Although your ADSL modem does not dial to connect to the Internet, it can
receive the error 678 no answer.
This is usually because you computer is still trying to dial an invalid
number entered for your computer.
You may find it easier to delete any dialup connection, or right click on a
dialup and make sure it's not the default connection.
Also make sure that that your Browser is no trying to use the Dialup
connection and is using the ADSL set-up.
I know its not the answer but it may head you in the right direction, as a
thought did you use the same Microfilter to connect to ADSL, or another one
in the other apartment, have had problems with theses before.

Error 678 is usually an indication that TCP/IP has become corrupt. Commonly
we would expect this Error for Windows XP
With XP try the following ...
a.. As always try a reboot
b.. Go to "Run" type "command" and click OK. In the new window, type netsh
interface ip reset log.txt and hit "Enter" (all commands should be typed
without the quotes). Then restart the computer. ( This resets the TCP/IP
Stack in WinXP )
Found it cant claim the glory.
