Default Broadcast problem

i have an NT4 domain with mixed xp and nt workstations...when i view the properties of the network card on SOME xp pc's i find the sent packets are with billions and recieved packets are in the normal range...the problem is that this situation is with only some xp pc's...other xp pc's and nt pc's don't have the same problem...i already made a complete windows update and the problem still presists!!!!
what can i do to stop the broadcasting of some pc's?!!!
