Default auto connect Xp Home share

This past month, I added a new PC (D) Dell 4600 pc (3ghz, WinXp Home)
to my "simple file sharing" peer-peer network with same workgroup name
connected via Linksys BEFW11S4 router/5 port switch.

.... pre-existing network PC's all can autoconnect to each others
mapped drives.
(A) - PC Win 98SE
(B) - PC Win Xp Home
(C) - Laptop WinXp Home

All PC's/Laptop [ A - D ] can connect to each other and shares are
accessible. Original 2 PC's [A & B ] and laptop [ C ] can auto connect
to mapped drives without entering passwords. New PC [D] autoconnects
to all PC's except PC [b].

Prob: The new PC [D] does not seem to be properly authenticated with
WinXP PC [b] as whenever I attempt to connect to share on [ B ] or
"click" computer name in "workgroup computer list", I must enter
"Guest account" password. Though no password requested when
connecting to PC's [ A or C ].

Can anyone help me auto connect to this Win Xp PC [b] without entering
the guest account password.

Does the latest Dell OEM WinXp vers. (Mar, 04) have any relevance to
this problem? I have updated both PC's to latest Windoz critical
updates.

I believe that if you enter your own usual logon name and
password into the boxes then it should auto connect
thereafter as long as you tell it to remember the
password etc.

Worth a try I hope - cheers mate,

Paul M.

Please reply to forum when replying as I do not respond
to personal requests, Thanks.

Default auto connect Xp Home share

Thanks for your reply. Yes thats the way it should work.
But, for some unknown reason, when I make connection to a
share on the host " PC [b] ", the USERNAME is "greyed-out"
and you cannot change the username drop-down menu field
(i.e. is fixed at " PCB\Guest " and I must enter the Guest
account password.
Other ideas much appreciated. Regards, J. Kester.
