I just bought a used comp, it already has WinXP SP2, thats all well -n-
good, but,,,
I have a brand new copy of Win XP Home Ed.
I really don't want to down grade, but due to the facts there r some updates -
n- things i need from Microsoft. and because i can not validate my Program,
well you knw th rest.
Not sure how it is loaded, its not -n- th add/rmv prog.
I did go -in- to the hard dr, C:,,, found boot leg files, but can't remove
them, at all.
This Comp is partitioned as NTFS files.
Can anyone,,,, Just send me a printable version, step by step instuctions on
how to reformat, my hard drive, I want to do a wipe -n-reload.
I really do.

Boot with the XP Home cd. Delete the partition and recreate it, format, and
continue with Setup. It's as simple as that.

Also, make sure you have the correct drivers for your motherboard, video, audio, etc.

With second-hand computers, especially if acquired from strangers
but perhaps even if acquired from a family member or friend, your wisest
course of action would definitely be to format the hard drives and start
fresh. You don't want to get in trouble because the original owner may
have filled the hard drive with kiddie ****, or have problems because
the original owner downloaded/installed viruses or other malware.

No, it wouldn't be.
The normal way to "uninstall" *any* operating system is to format
the hard drive and install a new OS of your choice.
Only if you performed an upgrade from Win98/Me, elected to backup
the old system files, and didn't convert the partition to NTFS, can
you then boot into Safe Mode and click Start > Control Panel
> Add/Remove Programs. All of these conditions must be met for the
uninstall option to be available.

The only way to change from WinXP Pro to WinXP Home is to format the
hard drive and start over. There is no supported downgrade path or
technique.
After backing up any data you wish to transfer to the new OS
installation, simply boot from the WinXP Home installation CD. You'll
be offered the opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as
part of the installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order
of boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
