Default xp disables network card

Hi there,
I have an XP Pro, Dell Latitude D620 laptop and everytime I connect
through the modem to the ISP at home when I come back to the office,
the Broadcom 57xx network card is disabled in device manager and
Outlook is trying to dial a connection instead of using the Lan. Is
there a setting I need to modify to prevent disabling of network card?
Power management is disabled on the laptop. Thanks, T

Dialing a connection ? - if that's the case then you need to instruct XP
that it only has Ethernet based connectivity - unless you do use a modem.
You should check your Network Connections and see if there is a dial
up connectoid present. If so, remove it and run Connection Setup and
inform XP that you use a Broadband connection that is always on and
doesn't require use of a Username/Password.

Do you use a Wired connection at both locations or both Wired and a
Wireless connection ? Also when checking Network Connections see
if you have a number sub-scripted LAN, such as LAN 1, LAN 2.....
XP tends to remember each NIC/Local Area Connection and many
times will create new ones.

As to settings I would assume both your Corporate Network and the
home based ISP uses Automatically assigned TCP/IP settings so it isn't
necessary to setup manual settings or use an Alternate configuration.

First time I've ever heard of a working NIC being "Disabled" after use
on a home Access point.

Try this setting under IE/Tools/Internet Options/Connections:
Dial when a network connection is not present.

Open Device Manager, open the properties on your ethernet card, click
the Power tab, and deselect "Allow the computer to turn off this device
to save power". If the device plugs into a USB port, open each port,
and change its power settings the same way.

Hi Everyone,
Thanks a lot. I do use a modem to dial my ISP at home and Ethernet at
work so I connect to Outlook through Ethernet at work and through web
mail(IE) at home.
