My XP Home machine has Bluetooth, and I want to do something that I can't
see how to do (yet).
I want to use my PC headphones to speak over the cellphone via the bluetooth
connection. In other words, to use the normal PC (e.g. Logitech) headphones
and mic like you would use one of those bluetooth gadgets you attach to your
ear for "no-hands" talking over your cellphone.
Surely this possibility exists, but so far I'm only finding things to
"connect your PC to the Internet via bluetooth/cellphone", which is not
exactly the application I'm looking for.

Which Bluetooth stack are you using? If you are using Microsoft's
Bluetooth protocol stack, then you can not use headphones over
bluetooth. Microsoft does not provide headphone access to their
Bluetooth.

Your cellphone manufacturer would have to provide software to do this.
If your cellphone manufacturer does not - I know of no way to do this.
It does sound like a strange arrangement, but that's just my opinion.
Does your cellphone support Bluetooth technology? If so, can it detect your PC
as a headset device? Doubt it. Is that what you're looking for PC software to
do?
Wouldn't it be simpler to just purchase a Bluetooth headset that was compatible
with your cellphone? I just got one for $20 USD. It was on sale (half price) via
the Verizon Wireless website.

Yes indeed, I'm getting the feeling from reading the replies that it isn't
worth the trouble.
I have a Motorola RAZR phone, which is bluetooth enabled. I have the
standard Motorola external earphone that plugs in directly to the phone, and
has AWFUL quality - a huge disappointment. And I have a Motorola bluetooth
earphone that I use in the car, and works reasonably well. I could indeed
just buy another such bluetooth earphone/headset for the office (and may
well do that now).
But I had also noticed, for example, that telephoning using Skypeout
actually gives a lot more audio quality than a straight phone call, and I
thought to myself "Hey - I wonder if I could achieve something like that
with my cellphone?" The idea was to have the computer, with its bluetooth
functionality (it's a third-party dongle) and some software, appear to the
Motorola RAZR just to be another headset. From the RAZR I would search for a
bluetooth headset and "find" the computer, thinking it was a headset.
Then, with the application on the computer, I would use, say, my Logitech
USB headset that I use for Skype, for talking over the cellphone. The
cellphone would think it was just communicating with another bluetooth
headset. In theory, it seemed possible and I figured somebody out there had
done it.
But after these replies ... doesn't look like it.
