Default windows xp repair

I was having problems with start up on Windows xp. I put in the installation
disk and used the repair mode. It gets to a certain point and then restarts.
When it restarts it says set up is resuming. This goes for about a minute and
then it goes into safe mode. There is then an error message saying that
windows set up cannot resume in safe mode. I've tried using f8 to change to
"start windows normally" but this does nothing.
Any suggestions
thanks.

use the same method
of booting with the
cd, but skip the
repair.

instead go into recovery console,
and when you get to
the prompt run
chkdsk
fixboot
fixmbr

then exit, remove
cd and try rebooting
again.

Tried those steps. It still brings me back to the message "setup is being
restarted". it automatically goes into safe mode ( even though i sent into f8
and started windows normally). got the same error message "windows xp setup
cannot run under safemode.
