Default Windows System Restore, Am I missing something?

It was my impression that Windows sets a checkpoint for the System Restore
daily. For some reason, mine likes to set a checkpoint whenever it feels
like it.

Is there a setting I am missing that should make it do this everyday?

It ( System Restore ) not only creates points on a calendar basis but
also prior to software installs or driver updates.

Which means - I'm guessing - that it doesn't do one daily, but does it
less frequently?

Leave your computer on 24x7 - or run it manually each day - if you
want points established more frequently.

By default a System Restore (Checkpoint) is set after 24 hours use (note 24
hours of computer use) if no other point is created by such action as system
changes, installations, etc.

In general, Windows creates a System Checkpoint when it detects no
usage of the PC. Sometimes that's in the middle of the night, sometimes
in mid-morning, whatever. But, why would you want to stop them, they
are your first line of defense if anything goes wrong. If you really
want to stop monitoring of your partition(s), just tell the Restore
Point app to quit monitoring, but best be sure to set your own RPs
manually!

Thanks for the responses. AJR gave me what I was looking for. Which would
explain why sometimes when I leave the pc on overnight it makes one and when
I shut it down it doesn't.
