Default Windows Explorer Folder resize problem (WindowsXP-SP2)

Hi,
If I stretch a windows (explorer) folder (like C:\MyFolder\testfolder) then
close it, and then open it again, then the new size is gone and the window
opens with the old size - new window size is not saved. A bit annoying.
Sometimes, however, the system does take the new window size settings,
though, but most to the time it doesn't.
Is this a bug?
How to solve this problem?
thanks

Press the Ctrl key while closing the window using the red X. That *should*
make size and placement settings stick.

Size the way you like, use the cursor (not the maximize button) to drag the
window to the desired size | Click the Close [X] while holding down the Ctrl
key.

Crtl and pushing red X does not work. I tried the left and right ctrl key of
the keyboard. Nope, nada, nothing.

Sorry, that usually does it. Unfortunately, I can't test here, since both my
XP machines remember size and place without any problem. Sorry again,

Have you enabled the Folder Options ( View TAB ) checkbox -
"Remember each Folder's View Settings" ? Sometimes it is necessary
to increase the "Bag MRU size" registry key value to something higher
than the SP2 default level of 5000. Beyond that it may be necessary to
make the two adjustments above and then remove the entire Bags
Registry Key found at:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell
and then START OVER with Window sizing and placements for them
to be retained.
*Always backup or export any Registry Key/value before making a
change or deleting.

Unbelievable but the value Bag MRU size was not even set. I've set it to
5000 using regedit and now it works. If I stretch any system window then its
new size is immediately stored. Strange that there was no default value.
Our computer is a Sony Vaio, bought beginning 2004. So winxp on the cd is
from 2003.

But I have another question. Is it possible to customize/associate a
particular window size to a particular folder when opening it?? I noticed
that whatever folder I open the window is always the same size.

thanks

I have to correct myself. I just mentioned that it works, well, not quite.
The resizing is only saved if I resize the root window *My Computer*. All
system windows deeper than that do not save the new size.
I tried everything: hitting Back/Forward button, hitting background, also
hitting ctrl + redX and all possible combinations. Nothing saves the new
size of the window.
I changed the BagMRU size to 10000 now and then did a reboot, but still
nothing. Hope there is only ONE BagMRU key in the registry - correct me if
am wrong.

No - there are two of them one each for Shell, ShellNoRoam.

The problem is not solved although I've set BagMRU REG_SZ = 10000 in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER Software Microsoft Windows Shell BagMRU
So, any other suggestions?
