watching TV with XP Home

Hi; almost 3 years ago this question was posted: "Please, is there any
possibility
to watch TV (using my TV Tuner card, signal from cable) in Windows XP Home
Edition. For example some way how to watch TV in Windows Media Player 10. I
don't want to use paid software from third parties." I am faced with the same
question except that I am using WMP11 and I have not yet purchased a TV tuner
card. Is there anything in the windows family of programs (for XP Home) that
plays/records TV?
If not, any recommendations for software/hardware would be GREATLY
appreciated!! Thanks!
P.S. - my TV signal will be coming from at satelite dish's receiver box, so
I don't really need anything elaborate. =)

My thoughts are after 3 years, haven't found the solution, or just
dilly-dallied until now. Sad. But, not an empathy thing.

Since you're leaving alot of detials out that you should have learned after
3 years were needed for a proper reply, forget it.

Actually WMP 9,10,or 11 has no bearing on the subject..To view tv or any
video on the pc,purchase a tv tuner card (ATI has one that sells at best-buy
for about 50.00),install the cards drivers only (although it has capture
software),
download WM encoder 9 series + its utilitys for the software,the WMCAP gets
you "viewing only",the encoder does also but will record it..Once the card is
installed,connect to tv thru S-video,or RCA jacks (thru the vcr
works).Thiers not
much to it really,also,if you save thru the encoder,you can run it thru
again by
converting audio/video mode,save it,then run thru WMP 9,10,or 11...

Most of these cards come with software to watch/record TV.

You might want to thing about a dual tuner card, so you can watch one
station and record another.

How powerful is your PC? I have a digital tuner card, and if I do too much
on the PC while watching TV it interferes with the picture.

Once you record the show you can usually watch it in any media player you
like. Mine comes out as MPEG2.

am using one of their less expensive models(cable TV) and their free
software to watch and record.

else did. I am simply looking at a similar problem as the person who posted
the original question had then. Why would you bother to post a rude reply
that in no way helps anyone?
