For the second issue what shows in Disk Management? Is a drive formatted
and a letter assigned? Right click My Computer | Manage | Disk Management.
Look in the right pane.
If this doesn't fix it then you need to post more details on what kind of
drive, if internal or external, and how it's connected.
Regarding your first question, it sounds as though you may have an impedance
mis-match. Go to your local Radio Shack (or better yet, a "real" audio
store), and explain what you want to do. They should be able to help.
