Default USB connection problem on HP Compaq Laptop

My COMPAQ Presario V4004AP does not access a digital camera or a mass
Storage Device (Card Reader) via any of the USB ports.
The PC (XP Pro) has four USB ports and I have tried the USB mouse in each of
the ports and it works OK however if I connect the digital camera to any of
the ports I get the "booing" but it does not show up in Windows explorer.
When I check the Device manager, it has a yellow ! and with the camera it is
listed as "Other Devices" and E-510. With the card reader it is listed as
Other Devices and "Mass Storage Device". When I remove the cable I get the
usual sound effect. When running the driver update/install I get the "Cannot
Install this Hardware" message.

Both items have been checked on a desktop PC (XP Home) and both work as
required.

TIA for any assistance.
Peter Stacey.

Default RE: USB connection problem on HP Compaq Laptop

try to uninstall the drivers by going to device manager ,then right click
and select scan for hardware changes, it will try to install automatically.
