USB 2.0 Drivers??

Just did a fresh install of XP Home SP2 on a PC that was
given to my son. The booklet sez USB 2.0 on board.

Have downloaded and installed latest drivers for the MoBo.

Still -- in ControlPanel...Device Manager the USB Host
controller does not include the word "enhanced" and when
I plug in a USB device I get the "this could be running faster"
dialog. Have downloaded and installed all MS updates too.

What can I do to convince XP Home SP2 that this is a USB 2.0
device???

Chipset drivers and/or BIOS update? If a BIOS update doesn't attend to any
specific need it's best to leave it as-is.
Have you checked the BIOS to make sure that USB is Enabled?
PC and mobo make/model?

Are there any Unkown and/or Other devices listed in DM?

It's a ACorp 694T-A Mobo with a PIII 1G chip and a
VIA chipset. The USB controller is listed in Device
Manager as "VIA Rev 5 or later Universal Host Controller."

No Unknown devices listed.

I have downloaded and installed later MoBo drivers
with no effect. USB works fine, just no USB 2.0.

That's a socket 370 board and AFAIK ACorp hasn't been in the mobo business for a
few years now. I haven't been able to find any USB 2.0 downloads for that specific
model.
Open any .ini or .inf file that's in the updated driver packages you have in a text
editor to see what the install consists of.

Have you checked in the BIOS to make sure the USB settings are Enabled properly.
Just because USB works fine doesn't mean a setting in the BIOS won't be set enabled.
Many boards have a few USB settings in the BIOS: Legacy, USB and/or USB2.0.
