I would try another cold reboot. If this does not help then I would
unplug the mouse to see if makes a difference. I would also try a
different keyboard.

I see later that you left out the vital information about having a laptop.
I bet it has a touchpad or one of the 'stick' mouse devices.
I bet you are hitting it with youtr thumbs/palm when typing if a touchpad.
Hook an external mouse to it and go into the touchpad settings and see if
you can disable the touchpad/stick when a mouse is connected.
Keep your fingers away from the touchpad while typing.
