Default System Hangs Up

Running XP Professional at home. Not connected to a network.

When a particular user logs off, the system hangs: the cursor becomes an
hourglass against a pale blue background screen. This seems to happen
indiscriminately, but it happens often. To resolve, I must shut the PC down
and restart.

I have run anti-virus but it has not resolved the problem.

Any ideas on how to resolve or what the problem might be?

Thanks,
Bob

His profile might be corrupted. Try this:
- Reboot the machine.
- Log on as an administrator.
- Rename the problem user's profile folder.
- Get the problem user to log on. Windows will
create a new profile folder.
- Retrieve the user's files from the renamed folder.

How do i rename the user's profile folder? Do I copy it or just change the
name?

Also, what would cause a profile to be corrupted?

Thanks,
Bob

"Rename" means "change the name".

There are several reasons why a profile could get corrupted,
e.g. a software malfunction.
