System Configuration Utility problem

I tried to run msconfig to work out why my pc is running so slowly, but
everytime I open it gives me the error

"System Configuration utility has encountereed a problem and needs to close"

Then shorty afterwards
"Dr Watson Postmaster" gives an error
How can I use my msconfig? thanks

Try it in Safe Mode. To get to Safe Mode:
restart the computer and after the post start repeatedly clicking the F8 key
until the boot menu appears,
use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode. Accept (OK) the warning messages.
Perform a virus scan in Safe mode as well as your troubleshooting.
