Every few minutes my XP Pro desktop reboots and runs scandisk. It does
it no matter what program you are in. Any fix for this? I have run
tons of cleanup utilities and deleted all but the most common programs.

Why don't you disable the automatic restart in order to obtain an error
message instead. "Windows XP restarts unexpectedly or restarts when you
shut down the computer" http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;320299

Most likely, you've butchered your system with those "tons of cleanup
utilities".

Boot into safe mode and look at your event logs for errors/clues, and report
back.

FYI there is no scandisk in XP. It's chkdsk. What cleanup utilities did
you run? Do you mean registry cleaners? If so that could be the source or
a contributing factor to the problem. They cause more problems than they
fix. Do not use a registry cleaner.
You might be in line for a clean install, but first disable automatic
restart on failure per Detlev's post to see what that shows.
I ran adaware, spybot, AVG antivirus, ccleaner, advanced windows
cleaner, and tweaknow reg cleaner. Ihave used all of them on ten
computers for some time and all seem quite stable and reliable. It is
a library computer and unfortuneately they have lost the restore disk
or I would have done that 1st. I tried another XPPro disk as I do have
the product key for the above computer but it wouldn't allow that.

1. Do as previously suggested and disable the automatic restart so you
can get the Stop Error.
System>Advanced>Startup and Recovery>Settings and under System Failure
uncheck "Automatically Restart".
4. The Library should contact the computer mftr.'s tech support for
replacement of the Restore Disk. Otherwise a generic (or preferably
branded) OEM install disk will do for reinstallation. You will use the
Product Key on the back of the computer for reinstallation and probably
need to call MS to activate.
5. If you are not a professional IT person and the above instructions do
not seem like your cup of tea, it might be a good idea for the Library
to consult either their own IT Dept. or a local professional. This will
not be someone from a BigStoreUSA/GeekSquad type of place.

Cleaners to remove malware are fine. I repeat my previous advice. Do not
use a registry cleaner.
