Default Stand by mode

I am running windows xp pro. and I can't seem to get my computer to go into
stand by mode. The monitor, keyboard, and mouse turn off but the computer is
on all the time, I can hear the fans still running.

Is this a new or old problem? If new what changed between the time things
worked and now? Hardware/software changes? What is the computer and
configuration?

It's a new problem. I had Vista but didn't like ( but it went into stand by
mode fine ) it so I got a new hard drive and picked up xp pro. This is my
system mobo is Nvidia 680i, video card is evga 8800 gtx ko, and a quad core
processor. I checked out the link and then checked my Bios, in the power
management I had it set to S1&S3, I changed it to S3 and it went into stand
by mode. But my keyboard or mouse would not wake it up.

It's either a BIOS or driver issues. Those are the normal causes.
