Default Shutting down

When I shut the computer down, the usual things happen. But the last screen
tells me that the computer will shut down automatically. 10 seconds later it
tells me that
it is upgrading 2 or 3 programs. After that the first message appear again.
I use Windows XP Pro (SP2).
Anyone any idea what goes wrong?

Turn off auto update and try it. Then turn auto update back on.

Turn off auto update did not help.
Instead I turned Auto update off via Services.msc.
Afterthat I renamed SoftwareDistrubutions (in C:Windows) to
SoftwareDistrubutions.old. Then I started Auto update again.
Problem was hereby solved.
Thanks for the reaction.
