Default Problems when I installed a driver onto my laptop

I finally got xp onto my laptop, It was a bit sluggish but it worked. I then
needed to install some drivers for the sound and the wireless LAN.
I tried the wireless LAN first and during the installation it asked me to
reboot so i did.
When the laptop started up again i got a blue screen that said it needed to
check the hard drive for consistancy. This CHKDSK thing needed to complete 3
of 3 tasks.
It completed the first task but when it goes onto the second task it gets
suck at 15 and just stays there?
I tried to get into windows using safe mode but that just gets stuck aswell??

Please can anyone help?
Thanks

Sorry it doesn't get stuck at 15 it gets stuck at 1%.
I forgot to say that it gives you the option to just cancel it but when i
cancel it it just freezes.

Chkdsk may not have stalled. The way NTFS partitions are setup the
$MFT data is usually offset to that percentage from the start of the
volume. How long did you let Chkdsk remain at that % of progress
waiting for it to proceed ?

You may want to try "Safe Mode" Last Known working configuration.

Doing an initial OS setup is where Imaging software is invaluable. It's
also a time period when "System Restore" can help if drivers cause the
system to fail.

I left the CHKDSK for about 15mins and it was still on 1%. I cannot use
system restore as i cant get into windows. I cannot use safe mode because it
freezes when i try it and when i use Last known settings that worked, brings
me the the same problem with CHKDSK.

You started by saying "Finall got xp" which implies there was allready a
problem or that your Laptop was supplied with Vista & Xp drivers are not
available
