Default Popup windows garbled, don't open properly

I'm not referring to browser popups, by the way, but regular program
windows popups, such as "Are you sure that you want to exit?" or "Do
you want to delete this file?". On my XP they often open in such a
way that the text is illegible or they don't offer a button to click
on.

Here's a picture for illustration:

(I hope this works, it's the first time that I've done this).

The windows can't be maximized, and I can't drag-enlarge them either.
Suggestions please, thank you.

Have you changed the text size?

Control Panel -> Display -> Settings tab -> Advanced button. On the General
tab the DPI setting should be 96dpi

Thanks for your feedback, Noozer.
