I am having trouble opening an excel file on the desktop directly into the
excel program. I think I used to be able to do this before something
happened. Is there a fix for this? Thanks.
Given that you not listed any steps you have taken, nor what process you have
taken to open an excel file on the desktop, we can't answer you. nor what
happens ie errors, screen flashes, etc and what is this something happened
BS, be a good poster and give details.

Details are: I try to click on an excel file on the desktop to open it. Excel
opens up to a blank worksheet. The file I clicked on does not open. There
are no error messages and nothing else happens

The association between the .xls file type and the program is a little
whacked. If you right click an .xls file and click "Open with" in the menu
you can ensure that M$ Excell is the recommended program and that "Always
use this program" at the bottom is checked and click OK.
