My husband's PC was working great, when all of a sudden, (unbeknown as to how
or what happened) his PC lost ALL SOUND.
In Device Manager it shows a yellow exclamation point icon next to:
MultiMedia Audio Controller.
I have searched and searched and what I come up with THINKING I have found
the correct driver to install....I keep receiving a message that tells me
cannot install...needs Update driver for Plug and Play Devices 536870397.
When I look for it, I come to forums, that lead me nowhere.
The driver I believe he needs is SiS655FX. (<---No where to find it online)
I have located something called MAX SOUND..something or other and that is
what won't install without that message needing to update the plug and play
devices 536870397, etc...
He runs Win XP PRO
and here is all the info I took off his machine (if this helps)
Silicon Integrated Systems Corp.
AMI BIOS: Version 08.00.09
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium (4) 4CPU 2.80 GHZ
Speed: 2800MHZ
Primary IDE MASTER / MAXTOR 6Y080P0
ASUS - MOTHERBOARD
His PC is only 2 years old.
DO NOT have any manufactured Installation CD...as the gal who built it did
not provide one...(I could have stanggled her for leaving that out. But, I
have a photo copy CD of WIN XP PRO slipstreamed with SP2, basically for the
purpose of being able to boot up using the CD, should anything go worng at
Log On, etc..
Please help?
Thanks
Vicki
We need to find the correct audio Driver as we would like to use his PC for
our primary PC.

ALSO... I forgot to mention... When I try to use the Hardware Update
Wizard...It will search for updates and finds this thing called: AC'97 and
then tries to install it..but near the end of the installation, the PC shuts
down (automatically) and reboots again...with NO changes or updates added.
