Default no audio device found

I have searched the posts but I can't find the solution.

In the control panel, the audio device is not found. I tried one solution
to install the software enumerator, but nothing happened. Any further advice.
The computer is a Compaq.

You're pretty light on details here. Generally, if the audio device is
not found, with the computer unplugged open the case and reseat the
sound card. If the sound card is onboard (part of the motherboard),
check to make sure someone didn't disable it in the BIOS. If the onboard
sound shows enabled in the BIOS but is still not showing, it may have
failed. Put in a PCI sound card, they are very inexpensive.

As always, it is important to ask yourself The First Question Of
Troubleshooting: what changed between the time things worked and the
time they didn't?

I tried a new sound card but that didn't make any difference. Any other
suggestions?

I'm sorry, but you are still not providing enough information for people
who can't see your computer to help you. Here is a link that will show
you what details to include in a newsgroup post in order to get focused
troubleshooting:

http://www.dts-l.org/goodpost.htm

Standard caveat: There is no shame in admitting that the methodical
troubleshooting necessary isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a
professional computer repair shop (not your local version of
BigStoreUSA). Have all your data backed up before you take the machine
into a shop.
