Default Network Places wont open

Am running a Lenovo Z61t laptop wtih XP pro+SP2 all drivers/bios up to date
Have run Norton antivir, spysweeper .. scandisk .. defrag etc etc

There are three behaviours that seem to be connected ... but not sure.

1 Sometimes .. for no reason i can figure, i can not open "My Network
Places" .. I click on it and i get an hour glass for 15 seconds, then
nothing .. no window opens. If i logoff/logon the first time i click, it
opens fine ... after i close, it will not open again. After a day or so, or
maybe hours and a shutdown ... it will repair itself. and i may be fine for
a few days ..... i just can not figure out how to force ti to be fine ...

2 Same timing as #1 ... My Computer takes 15 to 30 seconds to open ... at
times, a few minutes ... but lately, a few seconds.

3 again same timing ... i have a DIR shared on a local drive and then
mapped to my R:\ drive. usually when i double click R:\ the DIR opens fine
.... but then again for no appraent reason, i get an error that the share can
not be found ..

My main questsion is #1 ... i mention the other issues incase they shed
light on #1. i have used registry cleaners (norton, Advanced Windows Care)
...with no clear effect.

I have 2GB ram and plenty of virtual memory ... i get there feeling there is
a buffer size seomwhere set too small ... but i am totally guessing ... and i
am totally frustrated ... i would greatly appreciate any suggestions ...

my email is tcoates@chla.usc.edu

thanks ....tom

Default Re: Network Places wont open

Hi Tom,

See if this helps: Go to Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services
Right-click on Windows Image Aquisition and select properties
Change the startup type to disabled, reboot.
