It says he is talking about the framework and the body talks about the
service pack "SP1 for both 2.0 and 3.0 fail to install." What's the deal?

I submitted a request per your instructions. I just tried to install the
Trial version of Visual Studio 2008 which contains Net Framework 3.5. Here is
the result:
[03/25/08,15:02:04] Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5: [2] Error code 1603 for
this component means "Fatal error during installation.
"
[03/25/08,15:02:04] Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5: [2] Setup Failed on
component Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5
[03/25/08,15:02:06] VS70pgui: [2] DepCheck indicates Microsoft .NET
Framework 3.5 is not installed.
I found my burning software does not work now. Tried an uninstall/install
and still no joy! What a mess!!

I want to verify that Net Framework 2.0 is installed. Especially since I no
longer have 3.0 and the SP1 pk fails. I opened Adnim Tools and see that Net F
2.0 is listed. When I click on it I get an error "Snap-in failed to
initialize ... snap-in creation failed" and then it lists the clsid. Does
this mean it is not installed? Just because it appears in add/remove doesn't
necessarily mean it is installed. I have tried to install from a download
from MS and it fails as does 3.0.
Simple way to verify that 2.0 is installed and working?
Will be away from home for a few days, so if you reply and I don't reply
right away, didn't want you to think I was not appreciative or ignoring your
help

I think I eluded to that in the previous post. We are way beyond add/remove.
Part of the trouble with add/remove is that when you do a restore what you
have removed between the two times will appear back in the list. Also, there
are times when add/remove entries are not removed on a uninstall. Rare but it
does happen.

As to whether a particuler .NET Framework version is working, you'll find
out soon enough when running an application that requires it.

Thanks, for the above ... lol
It looks like 1.0, 1.1, 2.0 2.0 Compact
I have had your help before on questions, and always pleased with all the
time you put into the help(s). You are really an "MVP"
Will let you know what the request to MS brings in. If you find anything
else, I am willing to try.
I installed Visual Studio 2005 trial and it installed all but the last item
- Don't recall the exact name, but something to do with SQL...I think.
Will be away from home for a few days. Will check back in about 10 days -
Spring Break. Yeah!! No add/hd HS kids!!
