KB928366 - .NET Framework v1.1 Service Pack 1 Security Update - TO

I have two XP Pro Computers... This morning I was notified by MS automatic
update that 9 security updates were available for installing.....

On one computer KB928366 kepts installing over and over again... when I
power down I receive a message that an update must be installed... Yet when I
boot back up the automatic updater tells me I have another update available,
which is always for KB928366 - .NET Framework v1.1 Service Pack 1 Security
Update. There seems to be a never ending circle here...

My second computer is behaving differently after installing the security
updates plus two optional ones.... it is now doing a boot then reboot - over
and over again. Going into safte mode, I was informed that a BAD_POOL_HEADER
exists causing the computer to reboot to protect the computer.

NET RESULT from Security Updates TODAY...

I can never understand why customers have to do this stuff. doesn't
MS at all regression test its own critical updates, so don't they
know when they do or don't cause trouble? this is so bad that I
simply will NOT install ANY new security or critical fix without
lurking in the various self-help NGs like this one until it appears
that the new "fix" doesn't cause more trouble than it allegegly
fixes. And, has MS ever tried to understand its own babblefish
translation for what the fix purports to do? I cannot, and the MVPs
simply just say "its for your own good, install it". no thanks. get
your house in order and get the quality of your software into the
21st century. you think I'm going to spend real $$$ on Vista when
MS can't even reliably put out one or two critical fixes/month?

A friend's son takes care of all the computers for a Medical Billing
Service. He is responsible for their network consisting of 65
computers which are all identical. He says he has designated one of
these computers as his "Black Tuesday" computer which he applies all
"relevant" updates on each Black Tuesday. After 30 days, or until the
next Back Tuesday, he is able to see which updates from the previous
Black Tuesday are damaging and which ones are not. On each Black
Tuesday, he applies the updates from the last Black Tuesday to the
other 64 computers that were not damaging to the 65th (Black Tuesday
Test) computer. He then downloads all the latest Black Tuesday
updates relevant to his systems and applies them to the poor old 65th
(Black Tuesday Test) computer and starts the whole mess over again.

It seems as though the cure to “malicious attacks” AKA Black Tuesday
Critical Updates are becoming more of a threat to the health of a

SMART MOVE! I'm starting to read more and more people starting to get
a clue about this company's ineptness and starting to guard themselves
and their valuable systems from Black Tuesday Harmware.. err I mean
updates...

Problem is... too many numbers in the complacent part of the
population that feeds this junk. I just read on another NG where
there are the usual day after Black Tuesday horror stories popping up,
this lady that said, "Oh well, Microsoft will come out with a fix to
the fix shortly to safe us." Save us from who? BFL

Rather than use that cranky web interface discussion group, try newsgroups
and subscribe to microsoft.public.windowsupdates where you will find the
experts to help you with update problems, that of course occur every Black
Tuesday.

Same problem with my machine...the usual fix is to download it and install
outside MS update , but the KB search comes up with zero results for KB928366

Apparently this particular update has caused many people some grief this
week:

Review the above advice [which, yes, does include phoning MS directly to
open a trouble report], and please stand by...

I was able to fix my problem with this solution from Internet storm center.

"Basically, get the dotnetfx.exe (v1.1 or 2.0) and extract the file. You'll
see a netfx.exe file, now download the windows update manually and run it,
when it asks to browse for the file just navigate to the extracted netfx.exe
and you're good to go."

After running the file I did the download and it fixed the problem.
