Default IE and Firefox

Anyone know why when I click on IE:7 it flashes on the screen and then
dissapears? When I open Firefox....I get a message saying Firefox has
encountered an error and needs to be closed. It gives me an option to
"Debug" but that does nothing and it closes. Same thing is happening with
MSN messenger.

Windows XP SP2 AMD athlon. Gig of ram

Run SFC just in case some system files are damaged. *When* that doesn't
help, download Avast a/v, save it to a thumb drive, install to the
damaged computer, and run. Schedule a bootscan and see if that helps.

How to run SFC:

Click Start, Run, type SFC /SCANNOW, click OK. If any files are damaged
or missing, they'll be replaced. You may need to reboot afterwards so
damaged files will be replaced.

Go to C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer
look for ieproxy.dll
Move it to C:\Windows\Sytem32

Now go to Start | Run and Type
regsvr32 ieproxy.dll
and press <Enter>.
Now try launching IE7
