The IE stopped working. It does not connect to the Internet (with my
dialup connection) though it says "Connecting..."; it does not open
Help> About IE, though some other menu items work; when I try to use the
IE extension of Firefox it doesn't connect either. I suspect the problem
started after some recent automatic updates... What should I do? -Eustace
Have you tried starting IE7 in no-addons mode? To do so, right-click the IE7
icon on your desktop and then choose "Start Without Add-Ons." If you're able
to connect, you'll want to use Tools > Manage Add-Ons to selectively enable
and disable add-ons until you fgind the one that's causing the problem. On
some cases its the Yahoo companion or Yahoo toolbar that cause the problem.

Go through these cleaning steps:

Connections >> Double click Internet Options.
On the IE properties windows you will see these Taps:

Under General Tab clear your History, Internet Files and Cookies.
Then click on Advanced tab and scroll down to under the Browsing Option:
[&] Browsing
[ ] Enable Third-Party browser extensions (Req Rest) uncheck this box.
Then click on Programs Tab and click Manage Add-Ons and Disable all non
Verified Add-Ons (You should Renable them later one-by-one and see the
culprit and update it or remove it.

Thanks to both of you. First thing I did before even posting here was to
check for virus and malware - my computer was clean. I don't remember
what else I might have tried, like emptying the cache, there was also
another automatic update, but anyway today IE works.
