Assuming you've installed XP first, on your primary partition...
even by booting over to Vista you cannot simply delete or reformat that
partition...
your boot files would reside there.
Of course you can delete most of your XP folders while booted to Vista

I recommend VistaBoot Pro 3.3. You can use it to easily copy the Vista boot
files to all of your hard drives so that when you delete a partition you
will still be able to boot Vista.

Not good solution for me, to "delete most of the XP fiolders". I have
problem that one of the programs I really need can not work in Vista on dual
boot machine so I must find a safe way to unistal XP completely without need
for reinstallation of Vista.
