How do I Copy or edit profiles on a second hard drive

On PC "A" I have 5 user profiles and I can't log into any of them. It says
that Windows cannot load the locally stored profile. Causes could be a
corrupt local profile. I also get error 0x80040507.

I took out my hard drive from PC "A", and installed it on PC "B". Once in
log into PC "B" I can access the files on hard drive "A", but I want to edit
or delete the profiles so I can put it back on PC "A" and be able to log in.

I tried Control Panel/Users, but I can only access user profiles for PC "B".

Does anyone know how to do that?

You need to seize ownership of these profile folders. Click
Start / Help and look for help on "ownership" if unsure how
to do this.

Before you pulled the hard drive out of PC "A", did you try booting into Safe
Mode to see if you could logon with any of the 5 user accounts? Did you try to
log on with the built-in Administrator account?

What exactly do you mean by "I also get error 0x80040507". What else did it say
on the screen when this error message was displayed?

Rigo,

Right-click MY COMPUTER | PROPERTIES | ADVANCED tab | PROFILES button

Highligh the profile & say COPY TO & browse the location

Another way:

Login as the admin, copy the entire profile to another drive as a backup after you deleted
cookies & Temp junk as you don't need to take that rubbish with you

On the new machine login as the user you just copied, restart the machine, log in as
administrator & overwrite the newly created profile with the one copied earlier. Log out
as admin & then login as the user

Remember that as you're copying ntuser.dat you are taking the registry hive for current
user with you. So, if you upgrade from Windows 2000 to XP then never overwrite the
ntuser.dat file

No, I didn't think of using Safe mode. I don't have a separate admin.
profile, two of the 5 profiles have admin. rights.

I don't recall what else the error said, but it was something to the effect
of the profile being damaged. I find it hard that all 5 profiles are
damaged, but I don't know much about profiles.

As of today, I did a full back up of PC "A" hard drive, and I'm trying to
restore it with Trueimage. I have a feeling that once I restore it, I'm
going to have the same problem.

Not sure where to go from there... Any ideas?

yes you do - you can't not have one in XP. It is hidden in Pro by default
when you create a user with Admin rights.

As far as ideas go, I've already given you a few suggestions.

Put the hard drive back in PC "A" and boot into Safe Mode to see if you can log
on with one of your 5 accounts.

If that doesn't work, see if you can boot into the built in Administrator
account if Safe Mode. Every XP installation has an account named Administrator
which, by default, is hidden. How you access this account depends on what
version of XP is installed on your computer. If you're using XP Pro, hit the
Ctrl + Alt + Del keys at the Welcome Screen. This should launch the Logon to
Windows dialog where you can enter Administrator in the User Name box. If you're
running XP Home Edition, the Administrator account will be listed on the Welcome
screen in Safe Mode.

If you can log on with an admin account, you should be able to create new user
accounts and copy the corrupt profiles into them using the procedure outlined in
this article.

It also would be helpful to know the exact contents of any error messages. And,
as I asked earlier, what did you mean by "I also get error 0x80040507".
