Hotfix wants to install itself repeatedly--despite already being there
Ever since it came out last Tuesday, the KB931784 hotfix insists on
installing itself repeatedly on a machine--despite being there, according to
the Add/Remove list. I'll let it install itself, it won't report any error,
and not 5 minutes later the yellow shield icon in the system tray will show
it again as available for installation. I've done it repeatedly, rebooted,
etc, but it just won't go away.
I've now reverted to selecting the "don't show this update again", but I'm
still curious to know whether anybody else has made that observation...or if
there's some way to clean this up "properly"...

Hi,
Go to Start/Run/Regedit: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\HotFix
Double the click the number in the left pane and verify Installed reads 1.
Also verify that it is listed here:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uni nstall .....

Strangely enough, all the keys/values mentioned are there and are set to the
appropriate values...
Oh well, it was worth a shot. If history's any indication, this sort of
thing could very well clear itself up on its own over a period of time...

Having a look into the WindowsUpdate newsgroup may lead you to:

Makes sense. I'll give that a try next time I have access to that
machine...assuming the problem still exists.
