Default Help me determine which OS I have

If I go to MyComputer>View System Information I get:
System Properties
Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 2

If I run msinfo32.exe I get:
OS Name: Microsoft Windows XP Professional
5.1.2600 SP2 Build 2600

My confirmed order from Dell says I got:
AMD Athion 54 X2 dual-core 3800+,
Genuine Windows XP
Media Center Edition 2005

Note the conflict between MCE 2002 and MCE 2005. Is there a way to
verify which I have installed?

Are XP Professional and Media Center Edition the same thing?

Should I request an upgrade from version 2002 to version 2005 from
Dell?

Thanks much

Default Re: Help me determine which OS I have

Clear as mud isn't it. Actually, the system is running the expected
version. Behind all the labeling Windows is a simple Major/Minor
version product. Windows XP ( All flavors ) is 5.1.(ServicePack
build number). Windows Vista is version 6.0.

Windows Media Center is an extension of Windows XP Pro so
it's normal for the Major/Minor stamp to report XP Pro for a MCE
product.

You can't trust system properties to tell you the correct Media Center
version. All versions of Media Center for XP are either 2002 or updates to
2002. Within the Media Center UI select Settings->General->About Media
Center. See http://salloway.org.uk/mediacenter/2004/version.htm for a more
detailed breakdown on the different versions.
