Default Hard Drive light flashing continually every sec

I have built a new computer with a P4M800 Pro M7 Motherboard, Celeron 3.46
Processor, and a 250 MB Hatichi Harddrive. Windows XP Home. Memory Centon
1024 DDR 2 Now that I have everything done and updated I can't get the
harddrive light to stop flashing.Flashes about once every sec. I can unplug
the CD_RW and then it will stop flashing. I have tried 4 differant CD-RWs. I
have tried to stop the autoplay. Why is this harddrive light flashing
continually? Help

Presumably the Hitachi HD and the CD-RW drive are IDE. And what does
the manual say in regards to the IDE cable to use with this particular
combination, i.e., 40-conductor vs. 80-conductor, and whether or not
Cable Select should be used?

Normal. The OS has to periodically check removable media drives
(which the CD-RW is) to see if you've changed discs.

If you want this to stop, turn off Autoplay.

This problem shows up with some CD-RW's (liteon). This also shows
up from a faulty data cable. I found this information by googling the
problem. It was some time ago.
