Default Graphics card driver

HELP!

I have just installed windows XP home on an old Dell computer I
aquired for my parents. This process wiped everything from the hard
drive. The graphics look very bad and are set at low res without
giving me the option to change and it does not allow me into the
properties tab under control panel to investigate drivers. I assume I
need a driver for the video card - I know nothing about the computer
although I think it has onboard graphics only.

How do I find out what driver I need to find to get the display up to
scratch or is there a standard way of getting onboard graphics to
work.

Thanks and apologies as this is probably a stupid question but I am an
idiot when it comes to computers!

Clive

If it has on-board graphics you should be able to go to Dell's website
and look up that model of computer...then get the driver.

otherwise you can use a utility such as HWinfo32 which should ID the video
chip
and you can go to the mfg and get the driver there
(or else use www.driverguide.com)
