Default Got new hard drive, windows xp pro still doesn't install

The new hard drive formatted just fine. All the OS files
were copied to the HD. It "initialized" windows xp, then
I got a message saying that my computer will reboot,
and that setup would continue after that.

No, setup does not continue. It goes back to the
beginning of the process all over again, starting
with it wanting to format the HD.

Bios is set to boot from the cd-rom only. If I
go in and reset it to boot from the HD, I just
get an error message.

It's not actually booting from the CD-rom because
that doesn't work, but it is starting the installation
process if I put the windows xp disk in the DVD drive.

So what can
I do to get it through the whole process?

Did the computer work fine from the old hard drive? If so, sounds like a
jumper setting or something wrong on the new hard drive to me. If this
isn't true and you had the same problem with the old drive, sounds like
a controller or a RAM problem to me. Probably the latter.

You might change that... set the BIOS to boot from the CD first, then
from your hard drive.

I believe setup files are copied to your hard drive, and on the
reboot, setup boots from the hard drive.

You won't let it, so it boots again from the CD... it's only choice

ok, I'll try that next.....it's re-formatting now. I tried it with
the "quick
format" option, and it didn;t work (that is setting the bios to read
the
cd-rom first then the HD). So now I'm trying the same thing with
the ""long format."

well, no it didn't work before. I was trying to format my C drive
and re-install windows xp, and it was doing this - continually
re-booting. Then I started getting the BSOD, and eventually
figured out it was my HD. So I got a new HD ( IDE not Sata,
brand spanking new), and it formats fine (no BSOD) but it
is still won;t complete the installation process.

Have to ask. Where is the previous hard drive now? If still installed, is
it the first hard drive or only hard drive for booting?

The previous HD is out of the system, but now I
have to check whether or not it's really bad.

I now have a working computer, yay. I went back
into the bios part for the raid array and disabled the
raid array again. Then I tried another long format on
the drive. It didn't like that, and told me the drive was
damaged. It's not damaged, it's brand new. So then I
tried another quick format, and that worked! Go figure.
I also had to make sure to go back in the regular bios
and re-set the boot order to HD first, CD-ROm second.
That was when the setup really continued. I tried this
before, but it didn;t work with the raid array enabled in
there. Sheesh.

So now I have windows xp installed on a new c: drive.
Then I went back in the bios part for the raid array
re-built it. Now I just have to get windows to recognize
the raid array, but that's another thread for another
day.

You need to press F6 at the beginning to supply the drivers for the RAID.
