Default freezing icon locations on the desktop?

have searched through Control Panel>Display and sleuthed the Dummies
literature and cannot figure out how to make my desktop icons behave. Using
D&D (drag and drop) I can position them where I want them, but when the
machine is cycled on and off they reorganize themselves in some other
way....not my way. Very irritating!

Is there a fellow control freak out there that can help me with this one?

Kelly’s site

Run the edit on Kelly's site:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Line 188: Add Save & Restore Desktop Layout to Menu

See the top of the page for info on running the edit.

This edit will create two menu items accessed by right clicking blank area
of the desktop, Save and Restore. When you get things arranged the way you
want save the layout. Then if something changes it, restore the layout.

Default RE: freezing icon locations on the desktop?

After you have moved the icons where you prefer, go here:
Rightclick an open space on the desktop and click Properties.
Now click the Desktop tab>Customize Desktop button>Web tab>
tick "Lock Desktop Items">OK out>reboot.
