Folder Options - Folders won't open in same window
I have Windows XP Media Center 2005 on a Toshiba Satellite laptop.
I have already used to desktop Windows Help and Support to learn about how
to open the Folder Options Menu dialog box. I have selected and "Applied"
the option of, "Open each folder in same window," several times already.
However, each time I click a subfolder, it opens up in a new window - and all
of a sudden I have a million folders cascading open on my desktop because I
was browsing through a large branch of file folders.
I have even tried to make the necessary adjustment under the "File Types"
tab (by selecting File Folders type and trying to edit or reconfigure
settings through "Advanced" options. However the check box, "Browse in same
window" is grayed out and unchecked (meaning I cannot select that option
preference). Even when I try to add a new Action for the File Folder Type,
the box is still grayed out and unchecked.
I really need help fixing this setting problem. So that I don't have so
many folders to close after I have finally found the file I am looking for.
Thanks!

Lots of others with same issue: http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/...5422&SiteID=17
"...Looks like it's dependent on whether or not the Folder tree is
displayed inthe Navigation pane. With the Navigation pane removed from
Layout, or withthe Folder tree collapsed to the bottom so that Favorite
Links fills thepane, it works as expected. At least that's what I'm
seeing right now...."

If you can't find another way, you could change the default folder action
from "open" to "explore". Together with "Open each folder in same window"
you should be fixed. Trouble is, you probably won't be able to do that from
Folder options, File types as MS has decided that we must NOT mess with our
computers. You can get around that with ContextEdit as get doesn't give a
rat's *** what MS wants. http://www.ramlende.com/utilities.html

Thank you for the download of corrected registry. After merging it, the
