Fast toggling between 'open each folder in same/own window'?
it takes four mouse clicks and a series of jumpy eye movements to open the
Tools/Folder Options dialog and toggle between opening all folders in the
same window versus opening them in their own windows.
Is there a more efficient way to toggle between these settings?

I leave my setting as "open in the same window", and also have "explore"
set as the default for folders instead of "open" (so that I see the folder
list on the left). If I want to open a folder in a separate window, I then
right-click on it in the left pane folder list, and select "explore" or
"open" instead of the default "expand". You can also right-click then
"open" in the right pane to get a new window.

A good alternative; never occurred to me since i rarely use the folder view
(old habits die hard)...i'll try it. Ideally there'd be a simpler solution,
though.... ie, hold some key down while clicking, to force any folder to open
in a new window.

Hold down the Ctrl key while you double click on a folder and
it should open in a separate window.
Re: Fast toggling between 'open each folder in same/own window'?
That's the answer I was looking for! Thanks!
